THEOLOGY TENURE-TRACK POSITION – SCRIPTURE Belmont Abbey College invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Theology with expertise in the New Testament and the ability to teach upper-level courses on the Old Testament. Job Responsibilities: The teaching load is 4/4. Classes will be scheduled both during the daytime and in the evenings. Furthermore, courses will use different teaching modalities, including in-person, hybrid, and fully online formats. Accordingly, experience with Canvas and online education is highly valued. Service to the department, the College, the broader community, scholarly development, and contributing positively to the College’s mission are all expected. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Qualifications: We are looking for a candidate who places an emphasis on the theological and canonical interpretation of Scripture based upon the Church’s living tradition, the magisterium, and the best historical-critical scholarship. The College is interested in an excellent teacher who is passionate about undergraduate education and capable of leading classes that are part of the institution’s Core Curriculum and upper-level courses in his or her area of expertise. Familiarity with feedback-based assessment methods, such as contract grading and grade agreements, and a track record of assigning AI-resistant assessments such as oral exams and presentations are preferred. A Ph.D. in Biblical Studies or a related field by the time of the appointment is highly desired, but outstanding ABD candidates will also be considered. Belmont Abbey College requires all the members of the Theology Department to petition the local bishop for a mandatum. Furthermore, the College expects all its theologians to abide and proactively engage with the Benedictine Hallmarks, Ex Corde Ecclesiae, and the College’s mission that “in all things God may be glorified.” The successful candidate will be a talented and dedicated academic who is deeply and enthusiastically committed to the Catholic mission of Belmont Abbey College.
