Position: Regulatory Compliance Officer Location: St. Louis, MO
Job Id: 4235 # of Openings: 1 At First Mid, base salary is one component of our Total Rewards program. Exact compensation is determined by factors such as (but not limited to) education, skills, internal equity, and experience. This position offers additional compensation in the form of discretionary short-term incentives (i.e. bonus, incentives, and/or commission). The Regulatory Compliance Officer is a subject matter expert and provides support to the Compliance Manager to help ensure the Bank maintains a strong and effective compliance management system by assessing the overall adherence to various consumer protection laws and regulations primarily through the performance of periodic reviews of applicable processes and procedures. The Regulatory Compliance Officer also assists department managers in developing proper processes and procedures to facilitate compliance with existing and proposed regulatory requirements. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Develop, organize, and perform routine and complex reviews to assess adherence with applicable federal and state consumer protection laws and regulations based on the approved compliance review schedule. Support work performed with detailed workpapers that adequately document scopes and results of reviews.
  • Effectively communicate, in oral and in written form, the review process and findings to the Compliance Manager and the Compliance Committee along with recommendations for corrective actions where necessary.
  • Assist in the tracking of identified compliance findings including root cause analysis to ensure proper remediation and assist front line business units in implementation of remediation.
  • Assist the Compliance Manager in developing and maintaining the Bank's various compliance risk assessments and annual testing schedule.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of all Bank related federal and state laws and regulations and monitor legislative and regulatory developments.
  • Serve as a reliable regulatory compliance resource to Bank personnel by providing interpretations of consumer protection laws and regulations.
  • Complete required training associated with job function.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration and/or commensurate banking experience.
  • Minimum of four years direct experience in the federal and state regulatory environment impacting the banking industry.
  • Ability to obtain the Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager designation within two years of assuming the position.
Skills:
  • High level of organizational skills that allow for detailed documentation of work performed.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of the banking industry.
  • Time management skills and ability to appropriately prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting.
  • High level of confidentiality and integrity to maintain independent judgment and privacy of customer and Bank information.
