Job Title: Crane Operator

Job Description

As a crane operator, you will undergo comprehensive training to master inventory locations and operational procedures. You will work closely with a trainer to understand color codes for steel, warehouse placement, and crane operation, ensuring your ability to handle both indoor and outdoor cranes effectively.

Responsibilities

• Train for several weeks on inventory locations and crane operations.

• Shadow trainers and perform general clean-up tasks.

• Learn color codes for steel and warehouse placement.

• Operate both indoor and outdoor cranes.

• Perform housekeeping tasks associated with crane operation.

• Pull beams, load flatbed trailers, and railcars, including rigging and climbing onto flatbeds.

• Receive inventory and move materials using an overhead crane.

• Fill out shipping reports and bills of lading, documenting all outgoing loads.

• Adhere to safety rules while working around flatbed trucks and railcar systems.

Essential Skills

• 1-2 years of experience in construction or manufacturing.

• Ability to operate equipment safely and effectively.

• Experience with overhead cranes, forklifts, and heavy equipment.

• Ability to read a tape measure accurately.

• Capability to learn and retain color-coded inventory systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

• Flexibility to train on day shifts before transitioning to another shift.

• Physical capability to jump onto and off trailers safely.

Work Environment

The role involves working both indoors and outdoors, surrounded by steel in a construction-like environment. You must be comfortable with varying temperatures, from hot in summer to cold in winter. Safety gear is required, including hard hats, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots with metatarsals. The facility's flooring is predominantly gravel, requiring stability on uneven surfaces.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Petersburg, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
