General Summary & Scope
The General Manager (GM) leads the store, including salon, to achieve topline sales growth. The GM manages performance, people, and process to deliver highperforming results aligned with Ulta Beautys mission, vision, and values.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Performance
- Promote a culture of accountability to meet or exceed Ulta Beautys goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty, payroll, omnichannel, and retail shrink.
- Drive profitability through operational excellence, topline growth, and expense control.
- Leverage store forecast and payroll budgets to support scheduling and achieve sales and payroll targets.
- Address issues identified by financial and operational reporting, store visits, and audit results.
- Perform makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to drive sales and guest service.
- Stay informed on industry trends, products, and services to serve guests.
- Maintain prompt attendance as GM and hold associates accountable to the attendance policy.
People
- Attract, hire, and retain a diverse team of top talent; address staffing needs and open positions.
- Partner with the DM and People Success to address policy violations with appropriate corrective action.
- Build an engaged team that embodies the Ulta Beauty brand through collaboration, open communication, and prioritizing work.
- Create an inclusive environment that encourages growth and engagement.
- Leverage manager and associate development: training, feedback, coaching, performance reviews, succession planning, and individual development plans.
- Ensure direct reports receive ongoing training in brand and category education.
- Model open communication and align goals with Ulta Beautys objectives.
- Promote teamwork by working alongside the management team and providing clear direction.
- Execute the Guest Engagement Leader program to drive business results.
Process
- Ensure compliance with Ulta Beautys policies, procedures, and standards.
- Enforce the dress code and scheduling tool to provide exceptional guest experience.
- Use task management tools to prioritize store workload and ensure compliance.
- Protect assets by meeting standards: safety, inventory control, cash management, and loss prevention.
- Maintain inventory control processes and report theft as necessary.
- Support continuous improvement by adopting initiatives, technology, and communicating expectations.
- Utilize company programs and resources to drive store improvements.
- Communicate business trends, opportunities, operational challenges, and competitive landscape to field leadership.
Job Qualifications
Education
- Bachelors degree preferred.
Experience
- 35+ years of fastpaced retail management or relevant experience.
- Financial management: driving topline sales, interpreting reports, managing payroll budgets, controlling expense.
- Retail management: monitoring inventory, achieving operational excellence, driving service culture.
- Leadership: attracting, developing, and motivating talent; adapting to change; building collaborative relationships.
Skills
- Proficiency with basic technology (POS, Microsoft Office, Apple devices).
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to react under pressure, use judgment in ambiguous situations, and adapt.
Special Position Requirements
- Work a flexible, fulltime schedule: days, evenings, weekends, holidays.
- Available to close the store at least once per week.
- Attend corporate meetings, conferences, and travel (overnight and interstate). Maintain valid airline ID.
Working Conditions
- Frequent use of computer and telephonic devices.
- Continuous mobility during shift; frequent bending, pushing, reaching, twisting.
- Frequent lifting, carrying up to 25 lbs.
- Continuous walking and manipulation of objects.
Compensation & Benefits
Pay range: $40.00 $54.00 per hour, plus bonus potential. Fulltime positions eligible for paid time off, health, dental, vision, life and disability benefits.
